Create Your Own Garden

Garden planning is very   important before you start digging your soil. It guides you with your back yard project with a lot enthusiasm and assurance that everything is going to be alright.

When you plan your garden you want to picture out what kind of landscape design style do you want to have. Do you like straight lines or curves? Do you want a formal design or just a mix of casual flowers? Make your house as the starting point when planning your garden. Do you have a country-style home, a contemporary home, or a traditional house? Depending on the kind of house you have, you will know what kind of garden suits it best.

Make wider flower beds for the plants to flourish. Let the plants grow with wider spaces so that they will not look too crowded. It should be wide enough to have three layers to give that lush effect you want to achieve. The wider the flower bed, the better and if it’s a long bed it should also be just as wide as it should be.

Do you like to have an island bed or a flower border? An island bed usually has flowers planted in the middle of your lawn. Flowers are arranged in a nice proportion so that they will look good from all sides. A perennial flower border is when flowers are planted against a backdrop like beside the fence, a wall of a house or at a hedge of your patio. When you have a small yard, flower borders are always a pleasant site.

What season do you like to make the most of your garden? Do you want to have a colorful garden in the spring or just for certain periods. If you are thinking about creating your own garden this summer, add a splash of colors from spring bulbs, flowering shrubs and perennials. Flowers bloom best in the sunny season so you want to take advantage of it.  But if you’re busy during the day, you can still do evening gardening. Pick evening-scented plants and dainty colored flowers. Then enhance your garden with some beautiful lights.

Keep in mind that plants love the sun. They need at least six hours of sunlight daily. But if sunlight is scarce in your area, get some plants that flourish best with shade.

Many yards have areas of both sun and shade, so keep that in mind too when considering plants. Your garden plan should always take the amount of light into consideration. This makes a big difference to what will grow well for you.
